First step is build the "Strongback"

The foreman checking up!

It takes the whole family to build a plane. This picture is the foreman showing up to check on the work.

It takes the whole family to build a plane.

My support staff (wife) arriving to give words of encouragement and a hug.

The seat has not got glass on it, I used all the epoxy I had on the spar top cap! Supplies arrive this week, hope it will warm up so I can get it done.

Plastic test of the formers set up.

The next thing was to do a test of the 44" modification of the formers. I want more room at the shoulders, so I modified the formers to have 44" at the top and taper in to where the normal curve would take place for a 40" wide. I used a sheet of corruplast from a sign shop to make the former at station 54. Used a large square and a level to work out the fine spots along the way in comparison to former 42. It is a lot more work than I thought it would be. But I still did it.

I put a 12' stright edge down the center line of the formers, dead on!Further along installing the wood stringers.

The formers were mounted on the strongback, 1 X 1.5 wood stringers are now being mounted from former to former making a support network for the foam to be attached. I put a 12 foot straight edge down the center line of the formers. Dead on! The red arrow points to the 44" shoulder modification.

Checking the level lines on the formers, again dead on!

Time to check the level lines of the formers. I used a straight edge and a level. Again dead on! Working with a strongback makes the level part so easy.

Ready for foamReady for foam

Formers and stringers on and ready for foam. Looking back at all the extra work, I would not build it with the taper from 44" shoulders to 40" hips. To get the lines right it took a lot of sanding of each individual stringer at the odd angles, just go with the 40" design or the 44" design to make it easier.
